Meet Your Teacher
I was raised in central Maine, but I don't enjoy cold weather or seafood! I'm the youngest of four so I am used to constant activity. In 2nd grade I realized I wanted to become a teacher and began to purse that desire at a very young age by taking every chance I could to tutor classmates and teach lessons for my teachers. After graduating from high school I attended college in South Carolina at Southern Wesleyan University. I was drawn to SWU by the opportunity to play soccer for the college and earn a double major in early childhood and elementary education. At SWU I met my husband, Todd, and we moved to Perquimans shortly after we got married. We are the proud parents of three very active girls. Between working with the youth and children at my church, Bagley Swamp Wesleyan, and raising our family I stay quite busy, however teaching continues to be my passion.
In our classroom
This year we will have a lot of fun exploring our world and we will work hard to become the best readers and writers we can!
In our class we use the framework of the Daily 5, a research based structure for literacy classrooms, to develop lifelong habits & skills in the areas of reading, writing, & learning.
We will also have weekly Spelling & Vocabulary packets & tests. This is one way I strive to increase the vocabulary of my students. Monthly book reports on self selected and assigned reading will build our critical thinking and reflection on reading choices. I look forward to leading you in an exciting & successful school year with your communication skills!
